About this experience

Duration: 3 Hours

Over approximately 8 km, you will have the opportunity to discover Portugal’s largest river from a nocturnal perspective, where visibility is extremely limited, aided only by the full moon that lights the route ahead. On night-time descents, the silence and emptiness of the darkness make these summer descents very interesting, without the drawback of the daytime heat.

The descent is accompanied by experienced guides who ensure the complete safety of the activity.

Recommended season: spring and summer (June to September), on nights with a full moon.

Good to know

What to bring: Warm, light clothing to wear under the wetsuit, for example a thermal top and thermal trousers. Even in summer the nights are cold and contact with the water cools the body considerably. If you do not hire or do not have neoprene boots, we recommend wearing old trainers. You should bring a water bottle or flask, snacks (sandwiches, fruit, energy bars), dry warm clothes for the end and a towel.

Recommendations: During winter or in periods of heavy rainfall, the river’s flow can change rapidly within a few hours, so the descent always depends on the analysis and assessment of the river at the time, also taking into account the participants’ experience and age range. We may even have to cancel a descent once it has begun.

In autumn and winter we do not recommend participation by children and young people up to the age of 16.
Participants should take care with their glasses. They should come with straps/cords so they are not lost in the river.

We do not recommend the use of mobile phones, cameras and other electronic devices along the descent.

During the descent, nothing should be left visible inside the vehicles. Anything considered valuable should be placed in a backpack (which will always be with the participants or the organisers).

Meeting point

Ponte de Louredo (EN 110 Coimbra-Penacova).
