Freeport Lisboa Fashion Outlet

An outlet centre of the Alcochete marshes across the Tejo from Lisbon, reached over the Vasco da Gama bridge among the salt marshes.

On the flat land of Alcochete, where the Tejo estuary opens into salt marsh and mudflat, the Freeport is the largest outlet centre of Portugal, a long low building of stores under white canopies, twenty minutes from Lisbon across the Vasco da Gama bridge.

Shopping across the estuary

The centre pairs the brand outlets with the landscape of the estuary: the marshes beside the car parks are the feeding grounds of the flamingos and wading birds that winter on the Tejo, and the old salt town of Alcochete keeps its quay and its restaurants of river fish a few minutes away.

Between the bridge and the bulls

Alcochete is a town of the lezíria, with the bull-raising country of the lezíria towards Vila Franca de Xira inland and the wild camps of the estuary to the south. The centre stands on the road that links the town to the bridge, and the marshes of the Tejo estuary nature reserve wrap around it.

What to see

  • The outlet stores under the white canopies
  • The flamingos and wading birds of the marshes beside the centre
  • The old salt town of Alcochete and its quay
  • The crossing of the Vasco da Gama bridge from Lisbon
  • The estuary nature reserve of the Tejo

Practical information

The centre lies beside the road from Alcochete to the Vasco da Gama bridge, across the Tejo from Lisbon. Buses run from the capital; the marsh paths are flat and easy, and check the official websites for opening times. Allow time for the surrounding area as well, and keep to marked paths.
