Vila Viçosa, the “marble capital”, is a treasure trove full of heritage gems. With so much on offer it is hard to choose, but there are must-see visits where stories and curious episodes are preserved.
The Rota do Mármore AE offers a tour of Vila Viçosa that includes admission to and a visit of the majestic Paço Ducal (Museum Library), the jewel of this Alentejo town and an unmissable point of interest. The admission ticket is already included in the programme, accompanied by an RMAE Guide.
Our journey through Vila Viçosa passes by the Manueline Pelourinho, the medieval Castle and the Renaissance Casa Fortaleza, a visit to the Sanctuary of the Patron Saint of Portugal, the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição. From the Castle we continue to Praça da República, where we will see the statues of some illustrious locals (calipolenses), visit the Church of S. João Evangelista (Casa Professa dos Jesuítas), finishing at Terreiro do Paço with a visit to the Paço Ducal.
