Groups of masked revellers, satirical floats and the ceremonial arrival of the carnival king give the town, near Aveiro, days of celebration that draw visitors from across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">History and traditions<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The carnival of Ovar grew through the twentieth century into one of the great celebrations of the Portuguese carnival tradition, joining the masked groups of the town with parades and satire.
