Installed in the historic centre of the town, above the river, it gathers collections, images and voices of the generations who built the terraces of the Douro \u2014 and it is the natural gateway to the landscapes classified by UNESCO as World Heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The museum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum occupies a historic building in the centre of R\u00e9gua, the town that grew with the river trade of the wine. Its collections bring together the material world of the Douro \u2014 from the tools of the vineyards and the boats of the river to the archives of the wine houses \u2014 and its exhibitions explain how the region invented a way of taming the valley with terraces and walls of schist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to see<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The permanent collections, with the objects and stories of the Douro.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The temporary exhibitions on wine, landscape and river life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The views over the Douro and the terraced slopes from the town.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The riverside of Peso da R\u00e9gua, the old port of the wine trade.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum is in the centre of Peso da R\u00e9gua, easily reached by train along the Douro line and by road from Vila Real and Lamego.
