About this experience
Volcanic Wonders, Caves & History
Discover the wild beauty of the north coast of São Miguel on a boat trip designed for genuine coastal exploration.
We set off from the traditional fishing village of Rabo de Peixe and sail along one of the most impressive landscapes in the Azores, heading for Porto Formoso.
Along the way, you will enjoy privileged views over the Ribeira Grande Graben, a unique geological formation that played an essential role in the island’s agricultural development.
Exploring the Caves of Ponta do Cintrão
The highlight of this boat trip along the north coast is the approach to the emblematic Ponta do Cintrão. Here, we slow down to explore the volcanic sea caves carved by the Atlantic over centuries.
Whenever sea conditions allow, we enter the caves, providing an immersive and safe experience.
Our vessel was chosen specifically for coastal navigation: stable, manoeuvrable and ideal for positioning alongside the basalt cliffs and in natural cavities.
Unlike tours focused on speed, we prioritise:
Closeness to the rock formations
Watching seabirds
Explanations about the volcanic geology of the Azores
A calm, contemplative pace
Porto Formoso & Praia dos Moinhos
The tour also includes a stop at Porto Formoso, where you can see the verdant slopes associated with the tea tradition in the Azores, and at the stunning Praia dos Moinhos, one of the most beautiful beaches on São Miguel.
Small-Group Experience
We prioritise more personalised and comfortable experiences, ensuring individual attention and closeness to the landscape.
On board, we serve local tea and traditional Azorean biscuits, creating a welcoming and authentic atmosphere.
Our experienced team always adapts the route to the real sea conditions, ensuring safety and the best possible experience on every trip.
Seafarer’s Tip: Book in Advance
The north coast of São Miguel is more exposed to the Atlantic and conditions can vary.
We recommend booking your boat trip early in your stay to ensure flexibility for rescheduling in the event of cancellation due to weather conditions.
