About
Discover the world of traditional Portuguese music through string instruments. See, hear and learn about the fascinating history of these string instruments and enjoy a short concert.
You will see and hear the Portuguese Guitar in its different models, Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra. The violas de Arame (wire guitars), representing different Portuguese musical traditions, from the North (Braguesa or Amarantina) to the South (Campaniça), from the Coast (Toeira) to the Interior (Beiroa), and including the islands (Violas da Terra and de Arame).
The cavaquinho, a small but popular 4-string instrument, with a curious history that gives it “relatives” all over the world – Brazil and Cape Verde (cavaquinho), Hawaii (ukulele) or Indonesia (keroncong).
Some of the instruments on display will be demonstrated, followed by a short concert and, finally, a glass of Port wine.
Admission includes the instrument exhibition, a short concert and a glass of Port wine.
