About

Diving with Manta Rays (Mobula tarapacana) is classified as one of the best dives in the Azores. It takes place at an underwater bank called “Princesa Alice”, around 45 nautical miles south of the island of Faial. On this dive you will have the opportunity to dive into the heart of the ocean with these majestic animals. Occasionally large schools of Bonitos (Katsuwonus pelamis), Barracudas (Sphyraena viridensis) and Amberjacks (Seriola rivoliana) are also observed.

These trips take place from July to September, usually from 7:30am to 7:00pm. The trip lasts 3 hours each way, and after arrival we make the first dive, return to the boat for an hour on the surface while having a light lunch, and then make the second dive.

Diving with manta rays is also an excellent opportunity for people without certification, as the manta rays and other pelagics come to the surface. The boat is anchored and divers and freedivers stay next to the boat, and there will be safety lines tied to the boat for days with current and for less experienced divers.
