About this experience
Duration: Between 3 and 4 Hours
Descent of the rio Mondego, the longest Portuguese river, on a 12km section between the Carvoeira weir (Penacova) and the Praia Fluvial dos Palheiros / Zorro (Coimbra). This is the largest and most popular tourist activity in the country, and is suitable for a canoeing introduction. It has a stunning natural setting with varied vegetation and countless birds.
During the summer, there are some small rapids that provide a little excitement.
Halfway through the descent (at around 1pm) there is a stop on the riverbank where participants have something to eat, which they should bring from home.
Included

Good to know
SUMMER: important to bring a hat and sun cream suited to your skin, light clothing (shorts and t-shirt) or clothing suited to the day’s weather conditions, a flask or water bottle, a light lunch (sandwiches, fruit, energy bars), closed sandals or old trainers that can get wet (flip-flops are not recommended), dry clothing for the end and a towel.
WINTER: warm, light clothing to wear under the wetsuit, for example a thermal top and trousers. If you do not hire or do not have neoprene boots, we recommend wearing old trainers, a flask or water bottle, a light lunch (sandwiches, fruit, energy bars), dry, warm clothing for the end and a towel.
Recommendations:
During winter or periods of heavy rainfall, the river flow can change rapidly within a few hours, so the descent always depends on an analysis and assessment of the river at the time, also taking into account the participants’ experience and age group. We may even have to cancel a descent at the start of it.
In autumn and winter we do not recommend the participation of children and young people up to 16 years old. Participants should pay attention to their glasses. They should come with straps/cords so they are not lost in the river.
We do not recommend the use of mobile phones, cameras and other electronic devices during the descent. During the descent nothing should be left visible inside the vehicles. And anything considered valuable should be placed in a backpack (which will always stay with the participants or with the organiser).
Meeting point
