City of Tomar

Conquered from the Moors in 1147 by the first Portuguese King, D. Afonso Henriques, it was then donated to the Knights Templar in 1159.

Convento de Cristo, Tomar

The Convento de Cristo in Tomar belonged to the Order of the Knights Templar. Founded in 1162 by the Grand Master of the Templars, dom Gualdim Pais, the Convento de Cristo still preserves memories of those warrior monks and of the heirs to their office, the Order of Christ, who made this building their headquarters. World Heritage, classified by UNESCO

Tomar Castle

The construction of Tomar Castle began in 1160, at the hands of the Templars, forming part of a line of defence against Muslim attacks.

Almourol Castle

In the context of the Christian reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula, Almourol was conquered by D. Afonso Henriques in 1129, who handed it over to the Order of the Temple
