Centro de Arte Moderna Gulbenkian

The Gulbenkian Foundation’s centre for modern and contemporary art in Lisbon, with the largest collection of modern Portuguese art.

The Centro de Arte Moderna of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon

The Centro de Arte Moderna (CAM) is the Gulbenkian Foundation’s home for modern and contemporary art. In a building set within the foundation’s Lisbon garden, it holds the largest and most comprehensive collection of modern and contemporary Portuguese art, shown alongside international works and a lively programme of exhibitions.

The Gulbenkian collection of modern art

The CAM grew out of the Gulbenkian Foundation’s commitment to living artists and now occupies a renewed building on the foundation’s campus, reopened after a major renovation. Its galleries are arranged to move between the collection and temporary exhibitions, with views out into the surrounding garden.

What to see

  • Portuguese modern and contemporary art, from the early twentieth century to the present.
  • Works by leading artists such as Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso, Almada Negreiros and Paula Rego.
  • A changing programme of temporary exhibitions.
  • The Gulbenkian garden, shared with the foundation’s other museums and its open-air sculpture.

Visiting the museum

The CAM is on the Gulbenkian campus in Lisbon, close to Praça de Espanha. Opening hours and tickets are published on the official website, so check before your visit.
