Remontée du rio Arade jusqu’à Silves

We’ll begin this magnificent journey at the Doca do Cais de São Francisco, located at the Portimão Naval Club, next to the old Convent of São Francisco.

The Arade River is the second largest river in the Algarve region; it rises in the Serra do Caldeirão and passes through various towns, the most important being Silves (a medieval town that was once the capital of the Algarve region), Lagoa and Portimão, where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean, immediately east of the famous Praia da Rocha.

Cruise through the calm waters of the Arade River, “maritime roads” perfect for a medieval journey that takes us to the historic town of Silves.

Starting the trip at the boarding pier next to the ruins of the old Convent of São Francisco, we’ll head downriver to the fishing village of Ferragudo and São João do Arade Castle, passing the famous Portimão Marina.

Then we’ll begin the journey upriver, passing the Portimão Museum, which was once a fish-canning factory; we’ll sail alongside the city’s riverside area, passing the famous district of the best sardine restaurants.

Water carved curves into the land, from the Serra do Caldeirão to the gates of the Atlantic, and today, sailing through these medieval waters, we feel the history of this place.
