Itinéraire

The day begins towards the island’s south coast. A comfort stop in Vila Franca do Campo, the island’s first capital, to savour the “”Queijadas da Vila””, the typical pastries. Arrival at Lagoa das Furnas for the walk.

This walk allows you to discover and enjoy the marvellous views of the island of São Miguel. It starts in the parish of Furnas and lets you stroll along the wonderful Lagoa das Furnas. It is an easy walk, accessible along a dirt road. Along the trail, you will be able to see the “”caldeiras da Lagoa””, an area where locals use the high soil temperatures to cook traditional Cozido meals.

The trail continues along the lake, enjoying the serenity of the lake and its surroundings. On the way there and back, you will find the Church of Nossa Senhora das Vitorias, with 19th-century neo-Gothic architecture, and a view of Pico Gaspar, which offers a magnificent view of the parish of Furnas, where the walk ends.

After lunch, we visit this beautiful area, these different landscapes, with their fumaroles and hot-water springs, and, if you wish, you can even taste its mineral water. Then there is a stop at the “”Pico do ferro””, where you can admire the excellent view of the crater around the Furnas Valley. We continue our tour along the north coast, visiting the “”Gorreana”” tea plantation and factory, unique in Europe, where you can enjoy a cup of tea and the magnificent view of the plantations and the island’s north coast.

On the way back to the hotel, we stop at the Santa Iria viewpoint, to admire the majestic cliffs of the island’s north coast.
