Óbidos Medieval Town – Castle aerial view | Village and Óbidos Castle (Portugal)

Dating back to the 12th century, this iconic castle once formed part of the defensive line of the newly formed kingdom of Portugal. Over time, it became a royal gift — most notably given by King Dinis to Queen Isabel on their wedding day, earning Óbidos the nickname "Town of Queens."

The medieval town of Óbidos is one of the most picturesque and well preserved in Portugal. Enough at a high point, near the Atlantic coast, Óbidos had a strategic importance in the territory. Already occupied before the Romans arrived in the Iberian Peninsula, the village became more prosperous from the moment it was chosen by the royal family.

Within walls, we find a well-preserved castle and a labyrinth of streets and white houses that enchant those who walk there. Between Manueline porticos, flowered windows and small broad ones, are several reasons of visit
