After picking up the participants in Coimbra, we will head to Aveiro, less than an hour away. We’ll start aboard one of the traditional Moliceiros boats, which were formerly used to catch “moli\u00e7o” and to transport seaweed and salt. After boarding, we will make a 45-minute tour through the urban channels that characterize and divide the city known as the \u201cPortuguese Venice\u201c.<\/p>\n
When we finish the boat tour, we continue on foot, visiting one of the main tourist centers of the city, such as the typical fishermen’s neighborhood and a set of buildings in the “Art Nouveau” style that distinguished the Municipality as the city-museum of Art Nouveau. in Portugal.<\/p>\n
Then, we will go to Praia da Barra where we get to know the mouth of the Vouga river and the Aveiro estuary, barred by strong walls which gave rise to a beautiful beach without waves much sought after by families. We can also appreciate the lighthouse of Aveiro. It is the highest in Portugal and the second highest in the Iberian Peninsula.<\/p>\n
After visiting, we continue to Costa Nova, one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal and also with the most original neighborhood due to the houses painted with different colored stripes that border the Ria. Although nowadays they serve as a residence and tourist attraction, these colorful houses, in the past, served as a fishing warehouse for local fishermen who fished in the waters of the area.<\/p>\n
After enjoying all that Costa Nova has to offer, we will return to Coimbra and finish the tour.<\/p>\n
Ascension du phare d’Aveiro
If the tour takes place on a Wednesday afternoon, we will be able to climb the lighthouse through its 271 steps and at the top of its 66 meters, we will admire the wonderful views.
We do not recommend climbing for people with heart problems<\/p>\n
