The town of Silves in the Algarve, a region in the south of Portugal, is known for its well-preserved medieval castle. It is situated on a hill and overlooks the town and the surrounding countryside.

Silves was once the capital of the Algarve and has a rich history dating back to Roman times. The moorish influence is also visible all over town.

It is characterized by its whitewashed buildings, narrow winding streets and orange groves. Silves is a popular destination for tourists who want to explore the traditional and historical side of the Algarve away from the busy coastal resorts.

In addition to the castle, other notable attractions include the Gothic cathedral of Silves, the Municipal Archaeological Museum and the Silves Festival, which takes place every year in August and features music, dance and other cultural events. The town also hosts a popular medieval fair every summer, where visitors can experience what life was like in Silves in the Middle Ages.
