We’ll begin this magnificent journey at the Doca do Cais de S\u00e3o Francisco, located at the Portim\u00e3o Naval Club, next to the old Convent of S\u00e3o Francisco.<\/p>\n

The Arade River is the second largest river in the Algarve region; it rises in the Serra do Caldeir\u00e3o and passes through various towns, the most important being Silves (a medieval town that was once the capital of the Algarve region), Lagoa and Portim\u00e3o, where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean, immediately east of the famous Praia da Rocha.<\/p>\n

Cruise through the calm waters of the Arade River, \u201cmaritime roads\u201d perfect for a medieval journey that takes us to the historic town of Silves.<\/p>\n

Starting the trip at the boarding pier next to the ruins of the old Convent of S\u00e3o Francisco, we’ll head downriver to the fishing village of Ferragudo and S\u00e3o Jo\u00e3o do Arade Castle, passing the famous Portim\u00e3o Marina.<\/p>\n

Then we’ll begin the journey upriver, passing the Portim\u00e3o Museum, which was once a fish-canning factory; we’ll sail alongside the city’s riverside area, passing the famous district of the best sardine restaurants.<\/p>\n

Water carved curves into the land, from the Serra do Caldeir\u00e3o to the gates of the Atlantic, and today, sailing through these medieval waters, we feel the history of this place.<\/p>\n
