Its halls carry fish, fruit and vegetables from the Alentejo and its shops and stalls keep the rhythm of the city&#8217;s life, a short walk from the Roman temple and the cathedral.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">History and identity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The market dates back to the nineteenth century, when the city&#8217;s markets were gathered in a new building in the expanding centre. After years of closure, it reopened in 2006 with its interior renewed, regaining its place as the meeting point of the city \u2014 a living symbol of \u00c9vora&#8217;s daily economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to find and discover<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The fish, fruit and vegetable stalls of the Alentejo.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local cheeses, olive oils, hams and sweets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Flowers and garden produce, in the city&#8217;s market tradition.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The life of the square around it, with caf\u00e9s and shops.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Products and specialities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c9vora&#8217;s market is the natural place to stock up on the flavours of the Alentejo \u2014 olive oil, cheese, bread, pork and sweets \u2014 in the heart of the UNESCO-listed old city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nearby<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the market it is a short walk to the <a href=\"https:\/\/realdreams.pt\/fr\/attractions-to-visit\/regions-of-portugal\/alentejo-region\/templo-romano-de-evora\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Temple romain d&#8217;\u00c9vora<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/realdreams.pt\/fr\/attractions-to-visit\/regions-of-portugal\/alentejo-region\/capela-dos-ossos\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Capela dos Ossos<\/a> et l\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/realdreams.pt\/fr\/attractions-to-visit\/regions-of-portugal\/alentejo-region\/museu-nacional-frei-manuel-do-cenaculo\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Museu Nacional Frei Manuel do Cen\u00e1culo<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The market is in the Pra\u00e7a 1.\u00ba de Maio, in central \u00c9vora, reached on foot from the old town.
