The Museu dos F\u00f3sforos \u2014 the matchbox museum \u2014 is one of the most original collections of Portugal, and one of the charms of a visit to Tomar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The collection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aquiles da Mota Lima, who ran a shop in Tomar, collected matchboxes for decades: brands and designs from Portugal, former colonies and countries around the world, arranged by theme and time in the old convent. The collection came to the municipality, which keeps it open to the public in the cloisters and rooms of S\u00e3o Francisco, beside the church of the convent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to see<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The matchboxes from around the world, by country and theme.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The old brands and the advertising art of the twentieth century.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Convento de S\u00e3o Francisco, around the museum.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The historic centre of Tomar, a short walk away.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum is in the centre of Tomar, next to the river Nab\u00e3o and a short walk from the main monuments.
