Its miradouros \u2014 gardens by the sea, with hydrangeas and views that stretch for kilometres \u2014 are among the most beautiful of the archipelago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The village and its viewpoints<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The village grew in the valley of the Ribeira do Guilherme, where the first settlers of S\u00e3o Miguel made their home in the fifteenth century. Above it, the coast road leads to the great gardens of the miradouros: the Ponta do Sossego, with its flowers and lawns, and the Ponta da Madrugada, famous for the sunrise over the sea \u2014 the coasts of the island, green and steep, falling from the viewpoints to the water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to see<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The gardens and views of the Miradouro da Ponta do Sossego.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Miradouro da Ponta da Madrugada, and its sunrise over the ocean.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The village of Nordeste and its old streets.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The waterfalls and green valleys of the north-east coast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nordeste lies at the eastern tip of S\u00e3o Miguel, around an hour by road from Ponta Delgada, along the coast.
