MU.SA — Museu das Artes de Sintra
Sintra’s museum of arts, with a collection of modern and contemporary Portuguese art and a lively exhibition programme.

Sintra is best known for its palaces, but the MU.SA — Museu das Artes de Sintra offers something different: a municipal art museum with a growing collection and a busy programme of exhibitions. It occupies a historic building in the town and brings contemporary art to one of Portugal’s most visited destinations.
Art in the town of palaces
The museum opened in the former Casa Mantero, an early twentieth-century house in the centre of Sintra, and presents modern and contemporary Portuguese art alongside temporary exhibitions. Its collection, built around the J. Eduardo Lima Cascada bequest, continues to grow, and the museum hosts talks, performances and educational activities.
What to see
- Modern and contemporary Portuguese art from the municipal collection.
- A changing programme of temporary exhibitions.
- The Casa Mantero, a historic house adapted for the museum.
- A central location, a short walk from the Palácio Nacional de Sintra.
