UNESCO Heritage Walk: Santana – Lajido | Half Day

This is a linear trail that takes you to a wide variety of landscapes and a famous area where the liqueur wine of Pico was once produced. Lajido is one of the oldest wine-producing sites on the island of Pico. Thanks to the good state of preservation of the site, with multiple small wine cellars and other evidence related to the “golden age” of Pico wine, we can say that it is an authentic open-air museum.

After picking you up in Madalena, we will be ready for this interesting journey that will teach you a lot about the island of Pico and its wine culture.

The trail takes us through the coastal landscape of the vineyards, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage, but also through pastures between dense vegetation and along stone paths marked by the constant passing of ox carts.

We discover the way of life on this rocky island in times past and today. The forms of subsistence and characteristics of the island and its inhabitants.

After this cultural walk we will return to Madalena.
