Canyoning in Ribeira das Quelhas

Durata: Between 5 and 6 Hours

An activity that involves descending the Ribeira das Quelhas (Castanheira de Pêra) on foot, using jumps into the water, natural slides, down-climbing and abseiling.

This river runs through a deep, steep-sided valley, whose bed, banks and slopes are formed by impressive rocky crags that make this place almost inaccessible. At the start of the canyoning, you walk along the Passadiços das Quelhas, a new and spectacular infrastructure.

For the canyoning, the organiser provides the following equipment: wetsuit, neoprene socks, personal protective equipment (helmet, harness, descender), specially designed backpacks, and waterproof bags and containers.

This canyoning takes place in a beginner-level river, with a short section suitable for getting started in the activity. It has 6 different abseils of around 14 to 20 metres, some of which may be optional.
It also has some small jumps into the water and, in certain places, small down-climbs are necessary.

Recommended seasons: spring, summer and autumn (April to October), although in summer the river has very little water.

Buono a sapersi

You should bring water and a light lunch: sandwiches, fruit, energy bars, nuts, etc.

You need to bring footwear for walking in the water: trainers or shoes or boots with a thick, grippy sole (do not bring sandals or neoprene shoes). Footwear is the responsibility of the participants.
You may bring a Lycra top to wear under the wetsuit.
The organiser has waterproof backpacks for carrying participants’ lunch, but the amount should be moderate.

We suggest that participants eat something before the walk so they do not have to carry as much weight during the activity. It is important to bring sun cream. Those who wear prescription glasses should attach a cord so they stay more secure.
