Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães

A romantic palace-museum by the bay in Cascais, with Indo-Portuguese furniture, azulejo and a library of rare books.

The Condes de Castro Guimarães museum in Cascais

In the Parque Marechal Carmona, a few steps from the bay of Cascais, the Museu Condes de Castro Guimarães occupies a romantic palace built at the end of the nineteenth century. Its rooms, filled with Indo-Portuguese furniture, paintings and azulejo, and its library of rare books make it one of the most atmospheric museums on the Lisbon coast.

A palace by the sea

The building, known as the Torre de São Sebastião, was erected between 1897 and 1900 for the O’Neill family and later became the home of the Counts of Castro Guimarães, who left it to the town. It opened as a museum in the 1930s and preserves the character of a private residence.
