On the central plateau of Pico, there are more than 200 volcanic cones and a large number of lakes and lagoons that represent rare biotopes. In this quite remote area, we can find a high level of biodiversity and appreciate the variety of endemic flora.

We also appreciate the most beautiful views of the ocean and the neighbouring islands. There we can enjoy Pico’s nature at its best and experience the volcanic origin of the island.

We will start by picking you up in Madalena for this incredible full-day adventure.

During the tour, we will discover the “mistérios” of Pico and visit beautiful lagoons and various viewpoints. We will visit the Mountain House at 1230m altitude, which offers a wonderful panorama and provides interesting information about the nature reserve. Here adventurers begin their climb to the highest point in Portugal.

After a light meal outdoors, the adventure continues. With helmets and lanterns, we will take a guided tour of Portugal’s longest lava tube: the Gruta das Torres, 5,150 m long (3.2 miles). This tube has existed for around 1,500 years and was created during an eruption from Cabeço Bravo. The guided visit to the cave lasts around 1 hour, during which you can observe different geological formations, such as stalactites, stalagmites, lateral benches, lava balls and much more.

Once back on the surface, we will drop you off in Madalena after this long day full of wonders!
