Dolphin watching in Lagos

Observe dolphins in their natural habitat and see the Lagos coastline and the Ponta da Piedade promontory.

On this tour, you will have the opportunity to responsibly observe dolphins in their natural habitat while enjoying a panoramic view of the Lagos coast in the Algarve. The tour begins in Portimão and heads west towards the Ponta da Piedade promontory.

During the tour, you will receive explanations about the region’s history and geology, as well as information about the marine species spotted, provided by a multilingual guide and biologists. Additionally, you can admire the unique beauty of the Lagos coast, the various beaches along the way, and the impressive rock formations of Ponta da Piedade.

In summer, there will be an opportunity to swim in the waters of a serene bay. This tour is ideal for families and small groups, with an approximate duration of 2 hours and 30 minutes, depending on the distance and location of the dolphins.

Tour in detail

Sail with an experienced captain and biologists passionate about nature and marine life. We value education as a crucial element for conservation, so during this tour, you will deepen your knowledge about marine animals, their behavior, and the ecosystem they live in.

Explore the Lagos coastline, famous for its towering cliffs, sandy coves, crystal-clear turquoise waters, and impressive marine caves and grottos.

Discover Ponta da Piedade, renowned for its rock formations. This promontory, whose name means “Point of Piety,” is a natural wonder with great historical, scenic, and geological value. With high cliffs and rocks sculpted by erosion, the area also has a lighthouse that not only beautifies the landscape but also serves as a guide for navigation.

On the way back to Portimão, during the summer months and if the weather and sea conditions are favorable, we pause in a bay to swim in the calm waters and relax with a refreshing drink. The cliffs create a stunning and photogenic contrast with the deep waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

What is responsible Dolphin watching?

It is a philosophy that prioritizes the well-being of the animals and the preservation of the marine environment. Through ethical and conscious practices, we can ensure that our interaction with these magnificent beings causes no harm.

Rules followed by the Crew

  • Use boats with quieter engines and avoid littering the sea;
  • Avoid chasing, surrounding, or feeding them. Maintain a safe distance to not interfere with their natural behaviors;
  • Obtain the necessary licenses and operate within the speed and proximity limits set by authorities;
  • Educate tourists about the importance of dolphin conservation and the marine environment.

What to expect from the Dolphin watching experience?

Dolphins are free beings and cannot be controlled, so we cannot guarantee 100% sightings. However, we have a success rate of about 95% since they reside in Portuguese waters year-round.

This dolphin watching takes place in their natural habitat, the Atlantic Ocean. Sea conditions, weather, and other natural factors can affect visibility and the likelihood of sightings. Sometimes, dolphins may be further away, less active, or even antisocial.

Although dolphins are the highlight of the trips, the coastal waters are full of biodiversity and other marine species.
