Jardim Botânico da Madeira
A botanical garden on the hillside above Funchal, with collections of Madeiran and exotic plants.

On the hillside above Funchal, the Jardim Botânico da Madeira gathers plants from the island and from around the world. Its terraces, laid out on the old Quinta do Bom Sucesso estate, hold collections of indigenous species, succulents and exotic trees, with wide views over the city and the sea.
A garden above the city
The garden was created in the 1960s on an estate that had belonged to the family of the navigator João Gonçalves Zarco, and it forms part of the regional network of gardens and museums. Its collections are arranged by theme, from the plants of Madeira and the Atlantic islands to cacti and succulents from the Americas and Africa.
