Museu do Caramulo
A remarkable museum in the Serra do Caramulo, pairing a collection of classic cars and motorcycles with fine art.

High in the Serra do Caramulo, this unusual museum brings together two very different collections under one roof: a celebrated assembly of classic cars and motorcycles, and a fine art collection that ranges from sixteenth-century tapestries to modern painting.
Cars and art in the mountains
The museum was created by the Lacerda family, whose passion for motor vehicles led to one of the most important collections in the country. Alongside the vehicles, the museum holds paintings, furniture, porcelain and silver, including four sixteenth-century Tournai tapestries depicting the Portuguese voyages of discovery and works given by artists such as Salvador Dali, Joan Miro and Vieira da Silva.
What to see
- A collection of around 65 automobiles, many kept in running order and shown at rallies.
- Historic vehicles, including cars once used by Portuguese heads of state.
- Flemish painting, tapestries, furniture, porcelain and silver in the art galleries.
- A busy calendar of events, including the Caramulo Motorfestival each September.
