Museu Municipal Santos Rocha
Figueira da Foz’s municipal museum, with archaeology, ethnography and art assembled by the nineteenth-century archaeologist Santos Rocha.

The Museu Municipal Santos Rocha in Figueira da Foz takes its name from the archaeologist António dos Santos Rocha, who created the town’s first museum at the end of the nineteenth century. Today it brings together archaeology, ethnography, numismatics and art in a collection that reflects both the coast and the interior of the region.
A museum shaped by an archaeologist
Santos Rocha was a pioneer of Portuguese archaeology, and the objects he gathered formed the basis of the municipal museum. Over the decades the collections have grown to include local and regional finds, along with paintings, sculpture and decorative arts.
What to see
- Archaeological collections from the Figueira da Foz area.
- Ethnography and objects of daily life from the region.
- Painting, sculpture and decorative arts.
- Numismatics and other specialist collections.
