Parque Natural do Tejo Internacional
A protected stretch of the Tagus along the Spanish border, with river gorges, cliffs and rich wildlife.

Where the Tagus forms the border with Spain, the Parque Natural do Tejo Internacional protects a landscape of river gorges, cliffs and Mediterranean scrub. It is a quiet, sparsely populated region, important for birds of prey and for the plants and animals of the border country.
A border river
The park follows the Tagus and its tributaries along the frontier, with steep valleys and rocky outcrops. Its cliffs shelter a notable population of birds of prey, while the river and its banks support otters, amphibians and a rich variety of plants adapted to the dry summers.
What to see and do
- Viewpoints over the Tagus gorge and into Spain.
- Birdwatching, especially along the cliffs and the river.
- Walking and cycling on the quiet roads of the border country.
- The historic villages and castles of the region, including Castelo Branco.
Visiting the park
The park lies along the Tagus between Castelo Branco and the Spanish border, in central Portugal. Access is free; for trails and local conditions, check the official information before your visit.
