Museu de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa
Braga’s museum of archaeology, with finds from the Roman city of Bracara Augusta.

Braga was one of the great cities of Roman Hispania, and the Museu de Arqueologia D. Diogo de Sousa tells its story. The museum gathers finds from Bracara Augusta and the surrounding region, from prehistoric tools to Roman mosaics and sculpture.
Bracara Augusta
The museum was created in 1918 and moved into a modern building on the edge of the historic centre in 2007. Its collections document the Roman city’s streets, houses and public buildings, and are named after D. Diogo de Sousa, the archbishop who left a deep mark on Braga in the sixteenth century.
What to see
- Roman mosaics, sculpture and architectural fragments.
- Coins, ceramics and objects of daily life from Bracara Augusta.
