Pico Island Tour • Full Day

Discover the beauty, history, culture and gastronomy of the island in comfort.

We begin our tour along the north coast with stops at Cachorro and Lajido – former wine-producing sites. There we will find typical wine cellars and other evidence that may be linked to the golden age of wine.

From here, we continue towards São Roque, where we discover one of the many natural pools, also much loved by the local community.

We cross the Central Plateau to the village of Lajes do Pico on the south coast. Along the way we will enjoy excellent views of the island of São Jorge. Once at the top, we will visit Lagoa do Capitão, one of the most beautiful lagoons on Pico, set in a protected landscape area, and an excellent place to observe resident and migratory birds, as well as the native vegetation.

After lunch at a local restaurant in Lajes do Pico, we discover the traditional village, which is not only the first place on the island to be settled, but also the whaling capital of the Azores. Besides wine, whaling played a major role in the history of the Azores. Enjoy a stroll through the narrow streets and a guided visit to the famous Museu dos Baleeiros.

Before returning to Madalena along the southern coastline, we will stop at the vineyards of Criação Velha, the most emblematic site for understanding why the Pico vineyard landscape was classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2004.

This tour has it all: interesting facts about whales and wine, beautiful landscapes, plenty of culture and tradition. It will give you an overall insight into Pico Island.
