Across four and a half hectares, the museum brings together locomotives, carriages and thousands of smaller objects that tell the story of more than 150 years of railways in Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A living railway collection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum is housed in the distinguished buildings of the Entroncamento railway complex and is laid out as a &#8216;living space&#8217;, where the history of the train is presented through its engines, carriages and equipment. Its collection of around 36,000 objects is one of the best railway heritage collections in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to see<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Steam locomotives, carriages and wagons spanning the history of Portuguese railways.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Interactive displays on how railways shaped the country.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Workshops and family activities, often linked to railway anniversaries.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The museum&#8217;s network of smaller railway museums elsewhere in Portugal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting the museum<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum is at Rua Engenheiro Ferreira de Mesquita, Complexo Ferroviario do Entroncamento, 2330-152 Entroncamento, a few minutes&#8217; walk from the railway station.
