At its top, a glass skywalk hangs over the abyss, and the view runs along the coast from Funchal to the western tip of Madeira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The cliff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cliff was formed by the ancient volcanoes of the island and rises almost vertically from the sea, with the terraces of the faj\u00e3s \u2014 small platforms of farmland \u2014 at its base, reached only by boat or by paths cut in the rock. Above the wall, the viewpoint of Cabo Gir\u00e3o opened its suspended glass platform in 2012, and the place became one of the icons of Madeira: a balcony over the ocean where the paragliders launch and the light changes with the hours of the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to see<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The glass skywalk, suspended over the cliff.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The views along the coast, from Funchal to the west.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The faj\u00e3s of Cabo Gir\u00e3o, the terraces at the base of the wall.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The paragliders, taking flight from the plateau beside the viewpoint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The viewpoint is reached by road from C\u00e2mara de Lobos and Funchal, with parking beside the skywalk; the visits are made in all seasons, though the mornings usually bring the clearest light.
