Portugal is the 15th Safest Country to Travel to in 2024

This index, created for the first time by the “HelloSafe” platform, uses 35 objective indicators to assess safety in different countries.

Portugal was recently ranked as the 15th safest country in the world to travel to in 2024, according to the “HelloSafe Index.” Within Europe, Portugal holds the 12th position, standing out as one of the continent’s safest destinations.

Safety and protection are crucial factors for international travelers when choosing a destination. In the HelloSafe report, five main criteria were considered to determine the safety level of countries: the risk of natural disasters, the prevalence of violence in society, involvement in armed conflicts, the quality of healthcare infrastructure, and the level of militarization. Portugal scored 25.01 points, securing a prominent place both globally and in Europe.

How do other countries rank?

The top three countries in the global safety ranking are Iceland, with 18.23 points, Singapore, with 19.99 points, and Denmark, with 20.05 points. These countries are considered the safest destinations to travel to in 2024. On the other hand, the Philippines, Colombia, and Mexico are ranked as the least safe. These countries face significant challenges, such as high levels of violence and vulnerabilities to natural disasters, which justify their low positions in the ranking.

In the European context, Portugal stands out for its safety, ranking 12th among European countries. This fact is reinforced by the observation that 30 of the 50 safest countries in the world are European, making the continent the safest for tourists.

However, not all European countries have the same favorable ranking. France, for example, ranks only 80th in the world and 34th in Europe, with 36 points. This position is largely attributed to the persistent terrorist threat in the country.

With its ranking as the 15th safest country in the world and 12th in Europe, Portugal solidifies itself as an attractive and safe destination for tourists in 2024. This recognition underscores the importance of safety and stability as decisive factors in choosing a travel destination. Additionally, the high number of European countries at the top of the ranking reinforces Europe’s image as the safest continent to visit in the coming years.
