Museu Nacional da Música
Portugal’s national music museum, with a collection of historic instruments and the legacy of Portuguese musicians.

The Museu Nacional da Música holds one of the most important collections of musical instruments in Portugal, together with archives, scores and personal objects that document the country’s musical life. It is a museum for both specialists and curious visitors, with instruments that still sound.
A national collection of instruments
The museum grew out of the collections of the former conservatory and was created as a national museum in the 1990s. It now occupies a purpose-adapted space beside the Alto dos Moinhos metro station in Lisbon, where its instruments and archives are displayed and studied.
What to see
- Historic string, keyboard and wind instruments, including rare and celebrated pieces.
- The legacy of Portuguese composers and performers, with scores, letters and personal objects.
- Recordings and documents on the history of music in Portugal.
- Concerts and educational activities that bring the instruments back to life.
