Embark on a hiking adventure to explore some of the most beautiful landscapes in southern Portugal. Led by an expert guide, cover 8 miles (13 km) and gain insight into the region’s geography and history as you hike along the spectacular Portuguese coast.

Meet your guide at the beach in Salema before setting out on a moderately paced adventure through the Southwest Alentejo and Costa Vicentina Natural Park. Follow your expert guide and learn about the region’s history, as you admire the striking red slopes and seaside cliffs along the way. Marvel at the views of the ocean, learn about the natural and cultural wealth of the region, and keep your eyes on the lookout for local birds—perhaps spotting a peregrine falcon or blue rock thrush.

Halfway through your hike, pause to admire the impressive ruins of the Santa Catarina Fort at the end of Figueira de Foz’s sprawling beach, before taking a well-deserved break. Relax on the sand for a traditional picnic, consisting entirely of local products. Speak with your guide to hear about the best local hideaways, and take this chance to ask for tips on local restaurants and bars.
