A few steps and you have a view to Ilhéu das Cabras, Ilhéu dos Fradinhos and the entire south coast. Several stunning spots to photograph, lots of cows and green fields with typical dry stone walls.

Descended and begin the path to the depths of the earth on this visit to “Algar do Carvão” cave. An ancient dormant volcano, in this cave visitors can descend to a depth of around 100 meters (330 feet), and observe stalactites that are unique in the world due to their silicate characteristics, and an underground lagoon with crystal clear waters.

Now it’s time to catch your breath and head to a winery to taste the volcanic wine from Terceira Island. This unique wine, with above-normal salinity and the smell and flavor of the sea, seaweed and broken shells, was once exported to the English colonies, England and even the Tsars of Russia.
