Memory Route

This route is undoubtedly the most popular and best-selling! A special tour through Porto’s historic centre, through the narrow streets of the old neighbourhoods, such as Sé, Miragaia or Vitória. We will make brief stops, for example, to visit and discover the magnificent azulejo panels in the entrance hall of S. Bento Station (by Jorge Colaço, a Porto painter).

This station is considered by some historians to be one of the most beautiful in the world. The E-Mehari will take us up and down the city centre, passing the famous shopping street Rua de Santa Catarina, the Mercado do Bolhão, the Café Majestic, as far as Largo da Batalha, where we will glimpse the fantastic Teatro Nacional de S. João building.

We continue south, for a mandatory stop at the Serra do Pilar viewpoint in Vila Nova de Gaia. We can observe and photograph a stunning landscape over the banks of the Douro River and the Ponte Luiz I. We will make the most of the beautiful, romantic right bank of the river as far as the mouth of the Douro.

We will arrive at the Foz do Douro, a place that only became part of the municipality of Porto at the end of the 19th century. A seaside area of excellence, much appreciated by the Porto aristocracy. Here we will find the beautiful Jardim do Passeio Alegre and the oldest neighbourhood in the western part of the city, Foz Velha. This beautiful garden next to the mouth of the Douro was designed by the German landscape gardener Emílio David, creator of the well-known gardens of the Palácio de Cristal and the Cordoaria. We will make the most of the beautiful, romantic right bank of the river as far as the mouth of the Douro. Much appreciated by the Porto aristocracy.
