The boats once used to harvest Moliço (a set of seaweeds used as fertiliser in agriculture) — today, with sails replaced by engines, the famous Moliceiros — are used to introduce important points of the city which you can then explore on foot, such as the Art Nouveau Museum, the Salt Pans, the Beira Mar neighbourhood and many others. The Moliceiro or Mercantel Cruise (a boat used to transport goods) is the most sought-after experience in Aveiro.

The skipper-guides who accompany visitors on the tour provide the explanation in 4 languages: Portuguese, Spanish, English and French.

The Moliceiro Cruise ends next to the Salt Pans, and visitors must walk a route of about 5 minutes to the Meeting Point: the Canal Archway, on Rua do Sal.

In about 45 minutes, visitors will tour one or more Marinhas. A guided visit to the site where you will learn about the ancestral salt-production techniques still used today. You will discover the difference between sea salt, flor de sal and salicornia (an edible plant that grows in the salt pans), what a marnoto and a salineira do, as well as the characteristic fauna and flora of these natural sites.

The experience ends at the Salt Pans.
