We begin our cruise in the village of Valada (Cartaxo), which seen from a distance is a carpet of little white houses, where we make out the church, the marina, the boats… and in the background the Ponte Rainha D. Am\u00e9lia. We head down the river towards its islands, known as mouch\u00f5es, where we can find birds and horses living wild, as far as the village of Palhota (Cartaxo). This is where Alves Redol lived and wrote the book \u201cOs Avieiros\u201d, immortalising them as the gypsies of the river. We head back up the river towards the avieiro fishing village of Escaroupim (Salvaterra de Magos), with its stilt houses, the fishermen’s boats and the Casa Museu dos Avieiros. Opposite Escaroupim we see Ilha das Gar\u00e7as, a nesting site for various birds such as great egrets, little egrets, cattle egrets, glossy ibises, spoonbills, night herons, buzzards, among others. Return to the village of Valada (Cartaxo). This trip is the main highlight of this part of the river Tagus.
