UnionPay International continues its expansion in Europe

UnionPay International (“UPI”) is rapidly expanding in the European market, with 90% of countries and regions in Europe, including all Schengen Area countries, now accepting UnionPay cards.

This expansion is making life easier for UnionPay cardholders visiting Europe, especially during the summer, by offering widespread acceptance of their cards.

UnionPay card acceptance rates in European retail establishments have reached 80%. The company’s continued expansion means that cardholders can link their cards to mobile phones for quick payments, providing an efficient travel experience in popular European tourist destinations.

Additionally, UnionPay International has promoted more than six million European merchants to support UnionPay QuickPass, a fast payment system. This system allows UnionPay cardholders to make payments with a simple tap of their mobile phones, enhancing their travel experiences.

Various well-known stores in Europe have also started supporting UnionPay QR codes, which is particularly appealing to tourists from the Asia-Pacific region who are accustomed to this payment method. In destinations like Italy, Greece, and Spain, card acceptance rates have reached 85%, 80%, and 90%, respectively. The UnionPay logo is now a common sight at iconic tourist spots such as the London Eye, the Eiffel Tower, and the Acropolis Museum.

Payment facilities in Europe: From airlines to shopping malls

More than 90 international airlines and online travel agency platforms, such as Trip.com, accept UnionPay cards for travel purchases. The card can also be used for railway services in various European countries.

People widely use UnionPay cards for tax refunds and discounts at shopping malls in 44 countries and regions. Additionally, several European airports now accept the UnionPay app or QR code refunds.

Tourists traveling to 20 countries and regions, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Italy. They can enjoy preferential exchange rates for all in-country purchases after registering with the UnionPay app.

UnionPay is capitalizing on the digital transformation of the payment industry by offering mobile payment services globally.

Currently, there are around 200 UnionPay collaborative wallets worldwide, covering more than 600 million users. Various UnionPay card payment products, including “card, QR code, and QuickPass,” are compatible with cross-border solutions and have become popular payment methods for pan-European tourism.
