Tomar: From Knights Templar to Cultural Heritage

A day of exploring in Tomar, Portugal.

Tomar is one of the top destinations to visit in Portugal. It’s famous for the Convent of Christ (Convento de Cristo), which is one of the finest national monuments in Portugal.

Tomar was the religious home of the Knights Templar (1119-1312) and later the Order of Christ (1319-1834). So it was originally a 12th-century Templar stronghold that was turned into the Knights of the Order of Christ in the 14th century.
