Its lakes, hedges and tiles \u2014 some of the oldest azulejos in Portugal \u2014 make it one of the most complete estates of its kind in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">History and character<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Built in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the quinta belonged to the Br\u00e1s de Albuquerque family and later passed through noble houses before becoming part of a great wine estate. Its garden, with parterres, fountains and a lake, was designed in the Italian manner, and its palace rooms hold remarkable tile panels of the sixteenth century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to see<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The palace, with its sixteenth-century azulejo panels.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The formal garden, its clipped hedges and the lake.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The vineyards and the wine cellars of the estate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The setting between the hills of Arr\u00e1bida and the Sado plain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Best time to visit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spring and autumn are the finest seasons, when the garden is green and the vineyards show their colours. Visits to the quinta are usually combined with the estate&#8217;s wines; the conditions are set by the estate, so check before travelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nearby<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The quinta lies between the <a href=\"https:\/\/realdreams.pt\/zh\/attractions-to-visit\/regions-of-portugal\/lisbon-surroundings\/parque-natural-da-arrabida\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Parque Natural da Arr\u00e1bida<\/a> and the Sado estuary, a short drive from Set\u00fabal and its <a href=\"https:\/\/realdreams.pt\/zh\/attractions-to-visit\/regions-of-portugal\/lisbon-surroundings\/mercado-do-livramento\/\" rel=\"noopener\">fish market<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visiting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The quinta is at Vila Fresca de Azeit\u00e3o, in the municipality of Set\u00fabal, reached by road from Lisbon or Set\u00fabal.
