Azulejo Private Tour – National Azulejo Museum and Pastel de Belem Tasting
Descrição:
You will travel through the tile history in Portugal. Considered one of the most important museums in Portugal and unique in the world, the National Tile Museum has large collections of tiles of the last five centuries, from the century XV to the modernist and contemporary tiles. It is located in the cloisters of the sixteenth century Convent of Madre de Deus, which was founded in 1509 by Queen D. Leonor, being itself a veritable tile museum, with the magnificent church covered with blue and white Baroque tiles and a cloister with a tiled panel of 36 meters representing Lisbon before the 1755 earthquake. The Convent of Madre Deus is a charming combination of an historical building and the tile museum. Not only you will be able to see the artistic evolution of the tile but you can witness its application in a historical building. Tiles are not objects of the past. New artists were invited to create their work in the new constructions of Lisbon. Expo’98 was a window of what the best the country could offer. In an attempt to bring the art to the streets, tiles were not only used to decorate buildings but gardens and metro stations. Sant’Anna is a Portuguese ceramic factory, established on 1741, that produces all its products according to the oldest handcraft techniques since the clay preparation until the hand painted phase. Sant’Anna’s tiles and pottery collection are totally handmade. Its artistic quality is recognized on its product’s decoration and painting giving Sant’Anna the quality and unity that characterize the most important world’s companies. You will finish our visit to the Sant’Anna’s Factory by viewing the tiles and the pottery at their store. The Sant’Anna factory is located in Belem and close to the “Pasteis de Belem Factory since 1837”. We invite you to finish the tour by tasting the Pastel de Belem. Believe me, you will not want to miss out on tasting the original Pastel de Belem that was elected in 2011 as one of the 7 Wonders of Portuguese Gastronomy. Inside the Factory you will be able to admire beautiful tile panels.
