Fim do Ano no Funchal
The New Year’s fireworks of Funchal, one of the greatest shows of its kind in the world.

On the night of 31 December, the bay of Funchal becomes one of the great stages of the world’s New Year. The fireworks rise from dozens of points around the amphitheatre of the city, reflected in the sea, in a show that has made Madeira’s end of year famous far beyond the island.
History and traditions
Madeira’s end-of-year celebrations grew into a tradition of the island’s winter, when its mild climate made it a destination of choice for the season. In 2006 the show of Funchal entered the Guinness World Records as the greatest fireworks display in the world, and it has kept its place among the most celebrated of its kind.
