Redondo

The town of pottery and wine at the foot of the Serra de Ossa, in the Alentejo.

The castle of Redondo in the Alentejo

Redondo, in the Alentejo Central, is a town of white houses at the foot of the Serra de Ossa — the land of pottery and wine of the interior. Its old streets climb gently to the castle, its workshops keep one of the oldest pottery traditions of the Alentejo, and around the town the fields and the mountains of Ossa shape a landscape of vineyards and olive groves.

The town

Redondo grew around its castle, on the road between Évora and the Guadiana, and its people have worked the clay of the Serra de Ossa for generations — the town is famous for its pottery, shown in the shops and workshops of the old centre. The church, the pillory and the gates of the old walls keep the memory of the medieval town, while the vineyards of the plain have made Redondo one of the wine towns of the Alentejo.
