This trail stands out for its scenic and cultural diversity. It is part of an area of Protected Landscape of the Vine Culture and is one of the most emblematic walks on Pico island. In fact, it includes a large area of active vineyard, where the walls of the “currais” are in a perfect state of conservation.

We will pick you up in Madalena and begin this incredible journey right away. The walk will be approximately 10.8 km, taking an average of 3.5 hours.

The trail consists of a circular route that starts and ends in the centre of Madalena. This trail is particularly rich in elements associated with vine culture, as well as the “rola-pipas” (seaside ramps for transporting barrels of wine to the boats), “relheiras” (marks on the lava caused by the frequent transport of goods), shelters, cellars and much more. We will hear what makes Pico’s wine culture so special and how this unique landscape, classified as UNESCO Heritage since 2004, was created. In fact, the volcanic stone walls, as well as the cool, salty breeze, make this area very particular and the wine truly unique.

Wandering through a lava field over 1,500 years old, in the middle of the vineyards, you can also enjoy the view over the islets of Madalena, the Pico Mountain and other geological formations.-
