Feira da Ladra
Lisbon’s centuries-old flea market, where antiques, tiles and curiosities fill the Campo de Santa Clara.

In the shadow of the National Pantheon, in the Campo de Santa Clara, the Feira da Ladra spreads its stalls twice a week in one of the oldest flea markets in Europe. Antiques, old tiles, books, stamps, records and objects of every kind change hands here in a market that is as much theatre as trade.
History and identity
Its origins go back to the medieval fairs of Lisbon, and over the centuries the market moved around the city before settling in the Campo de Santa Clara in the nineteenth century. “Ladra” — the thief — refers to the popular nickname of the market, and its mix of treasures and trinkets has kept its reputation ever since.
What to find and discover
- Antiques, vintage objects and second-hand goods.
- Portuguese ceramic tiles, postcards, books and stamps.
- Records, instruments and oddities of every kind.
- The market’s setting beside the National Pantheon and the Alfama rooftops.
Products and specialities
The market is a place to hunt rather than to provision: old azulejos, out-of-print books, coins, textiles and memorabilia are among the finds that draw collectors and curious visitors alike. Bargaining is part of the ritual.
Nearby
The market is a short walk from the Castelo de São Jorge, and the city’s food markets — the Mercado da Ribeira e il Mercado de Campo de Ourique — are nearby by tram or on foot.
Visiting
The Feira da Ladra is held in the Campo de Santa Clara, in Alfama, on Tuesdays and Saturdays, in the morning and early afternoon. Check the official municipal pages before your visit, as the market pauses on holidays.
