Zoo da Maia

The zoo in the centre of Maia, in Greater Porto, with its animals and the largest reptilarium of Portugal.

The Zoo da Maia

In the heart of the city of Maia, the Parque Zoológico da Maia keeps a collection of animals from the whole world in the middle of Greater Porto: hundreds of animals of more than a hundred species, between the enclosures of the park and the great reptilarium that made the zoo known. It is a city zoo in the classic sense — a place of the neighbourhood and of the schools — with the animals at a short walk from the metro.

The zoo

The zoo has grown through the decades in the centre of the city of Maia, gathering mammals, birds and reptiles of the five continents in the spaces of the park. Its reptilarium — the largest of the country — shows snakes, lizards, crocodiles and other reptiles, with an exhibition of skeletons that takes visitors into the time of the dinosaurs; the park also keeps its aviaries and the animals of the farm, in a visit made for families and for the schools of the region.
